Color Forecasting 2010 – Indigenous

indigenousWelcome to my inaugural Diva Dish blurb! Fall is in full swing here in Denver, and I recently had an opportunity to attend a presentation on the Color Trends for 2010.  Color forecasting affects all design industries, from Fashion to Interiors. Each year, and sometimes even each season, current affairs, economic conditions and previous year’s trends set the tone for colors for the new year. This year, we have a few new trends – and this first one, what we are calling Indigenous – happens to be one of my favorite color combinations. This scheme combines earthy tones with rich shades that will spark your imagination. Deep teal, red pepper, and a woodsy golden hue add tribal interest to the earthy khaki, sage gray and chocolate aubergine. These colors were influenced by various aspects of the African continent. Tribal decorative arts, trading beads, and local crafts contributed to the all of this year’s trends. They are revealing themselves in textiles with exposed threads, feathers, beads, and bold ethnic patterns. Although this scheme would work best in a fusion design, it could be incorporated into any existing space where warm, sensual color and texture is desired.
